After thorough history taking, an examination of the head, neck, jaw and throat structures is completed to comprehensively assess the patient's individual situation. This information is correlated with sleep study testing to establish an accurate diagnosis and determine the most appropriate treatment options.

We will coordinate patient care with the general practitioner, sleep physician or ENT specialist to help resolve the snoring or sleep apnoea condition.

We believe our first responsibility is to INFORM and EDUCATE our patients. We review the evaluation findings and explain the risks, benefits and reasonable expectations of the different treatment options with each patient. We guide patients in deciding which oral appliance will be most effective and comfortable for their situation.

After the device has been fitted we work closely with the patient for a 6-12 month period to ensure the comfort and effectiveness of their treatment. This may include repeat sleep testing to objectively evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment. After those patients are seen at least once a year to assess their progress and ensure no untoward consequences to the bite or jaw structures are occurring. This comprehensive approach is important to achieving a successful treatment outcome.

PREPARATION FOR YOUR VISIT

 

If you would like to consult Dr. Robert Delcanho, it is preferred you obtain a referral from your doctor, dentist or other healthcare professional. However, an appointment can be made directly if desired.

 

Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment to complete important patient history forms. If you wish to complete the patient history forms at home and bring it with you to the appointment, please call our practice and we can email the forms to you. Please remember to bring the forms with you to your appointment.

 

If you are unable to attend your appointment, please inform us immediately. As we are a busy practice with many patients in pain requiring prompt attention, we would appreciate your consideration for the other patients. Missed appointments and cancellations within 24 hours may result in a fee.

DENTAL INSURANCE

 

It is important to note that being dentally qualified, Dr. Delcanho’s treatment at The Snoring Clinic is NOT covered under Medicare. There is no Medicare rebate available for consultation and treatment at The Snoring Clinic.

 

However, if you have private health insurance that covers Dental treatment, then a portion of the fee is claimable. The extent of your cover and $ rebate for each item number is dependent upon the type of Policy/Table that you have with your Health Fund. Different funds will rebate different amounts to their members.

 

At request, we are happy to provide item numbers for you to check with your Health Fund how much rebate you can expect to receive back and recommend you do so.

 

We are often asked if we are a “Preferred Provider” for any of the Health Funds. This entails a contractual agreement with a particular Health Fund and adhering to a negotiated fee schedule with other restrictions. To date, The Snoring Clinic has not entered into financial agreements with any Health Funds as the amounts offered would necessarily compromise the time and level of patient care required in the field of orofacial pain. In fact, the Australian Dental Association is strongly urging their members to avoid entering into restrictive agreements with Health Funds. The Snoring Clinic will not compromise patient care.
